RemTech 2007 Raises
a Record Amount for Charity ... Thank-you 
The Remediation Technologies Symposium (RemTech)
held October 24-26, 2007 at the Fairmont Banff Springs in
Banff. ESAA would like to thank all of the delegates who
attended the event, all of the presenters who provided the
technical content, and the exhibitors. A special thanks
to all of the sponsors and supporters, with out your support
an event of this size and calibre would not have been possible.
The
big winners of the 2007 event were the Environmental
Artworks Foundation of Alberta (EAFA), the Ilsa
Mae Research Fund at Muscular Dystrophy Canada (MDC)
and The
Calgary Zoo Conservation Fund. A record $53,700 was
raised for these charities. (EAFA - $22,800, Ilsa's Fund
- $24,200, Calgary Zoo - $6,600) In the past three years
the industry through RemTech has donated nearly $106,000
to charity. To everyone who made a donation or donated an
item - an enormous thank-you!

Environmental
Artworks Foundation of Alberta
The Environmental Artworks Foundation of Alberta (EAFA)
is a charitable organization affiliated with The Environmental
Services Association of Alberta (ESAA). ESAA has been
dedicated to serving the environmental service industry
in the province of Alberta and increasing awareness of
environmental issues in Alberta since 1987. ESAA feels
strongly that it is important for businesses to give back
something to the community that they are a part of, therefore,
EAFA was established in late 2004. EAFA present an annual
contest in Alberta's school system to promote environmental
awareness in Alberta. For more information visit:
Ilsa
Mae Chowaniec Research Fund c/o Muscular Dystrophy Canada
In late 2005, the Chowaniec
family and the Environmental Services Association of Alberta
(ESAA), through MDC created the ILSA MAE RESEARCH FUND.
This fund has the specific goal of supporting SMA research
in Canada. Money raised for Muscular Dystrophy Canada
at ESAA Events are donated to this fund. Since the inception
of the fund, nearly $20,000 has been raised and since
1998, ESAA Members and the environment industry have raised
over $45,000 to support the initiatives of MDC. For more

Wechiau
Community Hippo Sanctuary 
The Wechiau Community Hippo Sanctuary - a community-run
ecotourism destination that does not receive governmental
support. The Sanctuary protects the hippos and other wildlife,
and the local residents benefit economically too! Since
1999, the Calgary Zoo has been supporting the Hippo Sanctuary
with funding and technical support. This community eco-tourism
project is one of 12 Conservation Outreach projects supported
by the Calgary Zoo. For more information visit:
